Well Being Week
As part of well being week we had a series of talks and activities . Each year group was given different coloured ribbons representing different words .
Our first talk commenced on Monday the 6th of November , it was with the Minister for Health Simon Harris . He spoke about the importance of Mental Health and that we need more help for people dealing with mental health disorders like depression and anxiety . He went on to say everyone has good and bad days . I found what he said was interesting but he could have gone into it with more detail .
The second speaker was Alison Canavan , I thought she was a very inspirational speaker and really engaged with the crowd . Alison spoke about her life starting off as a very successful model , constantly travelling but constantly drinking and partying from a young age , losing her "voice" in the process . She eventually realised how bad she really was when she became pregnant age 32 when she returned home to Ireland . She turned her life around for her child , her mom and for herself . She became an ambassador for healthy eating and Mental Health .

YSI
This year I took part in YSI 'Young Social Innovators' which I always had an interest in doing after watching previous Transition Year students participate . This year we chose to do Homelessness which is something we all felt very passionate about we did lots of various things to raise awareness , we got speakers in from Tiglin a guy called John who had been homeless but has now recovered from his drug addiction his story honestly moved us all and led most to tears it was so unexpected none of us had any idea we were going to hear such a deep story and he told it with such bravery . We decided to do dignity packs and each year group was assigned different objects to bring in , it felt really good to know you were making a difference to someone's life . We went to a YSI seminar in Dun laoghaire where we preformed a play along side other schools , it was really interesting to see what other schools chose to do and why our year did really well and we were all very proud of each other . I'm really glad I chose to do YSI because it's made me a more open minded person .
